KATZ PLUM PRESERVES - Laroda Variety 16 oz. $17
"For my money, KATZ makes the best jams in the country." Corby Kummer, The Atlantic
The Story: We use several varieties of plums during the summer season depending on the timing each one is harvested. At present, we now are offering the Laroda Plum variety.
The Fruit: It was developed and first planted in Winters, CA in the early 1940s. Like the Santa Rosa plums, these also come from farmers Frank and Michelle at Bera Ranch in Winters. They have been growing heirloom stone fruit for over 25 years and are committed to keeping them going. The Laroda has dark purple skin with a red/orange flesh; the finished condiment is a deep cherry red and we very much enjoyed sampling the batch that we just made to decide on its flavor profile.
The Taste: Very balanced flavors full of sweet spice with almost a hint of cinnamon, and a pleasant but forward tart finish. The natural pectin in the fruit leaves a smooth but firm texture with a distinctive rich plummy quality that hints of black cherries!
Serving Suggestions: Try them on warm scones or biscuits, or on an English muffin with cream cheese. Also makes a delectable condiment for your fall holiday glazed ham, roasted turkey or pork loin. Or, make the absolutely best sandwich with our homemade Roasted Almond Butter and a slathering of KATZ Laroda Plum Preserves (we call that an AB&J around here).
3 jar limit, please.
