A Honey of a Treat…PURE RAW CITRUS BLOSSOM HONEYCOMB 14 oz
Some 550+ bees have to visit over 2 million flower blossoms to create 1 pound of honey, and then must consume 6 pounds of honey to generate 1 pound of beeswax!
One of the more aesthetically pleasing sights in nature is the structure made by bees to form the basis of their home - honeycomb. We all know this iconic pattern well. This is a very rare offering of honeycomb cut from the frames of bees who have gathered up this offering in orange and lemon groves of California’s Central Valley. While the bees are there to pollinate the citrus trees, they gather up the pollen and return it to the hive…Mother Nature at work! When a frame is full of honey they can be removed and these hexagonal gems of nature are then cut into squares for a culinary treat!
Beeswax is an amazing substance that is entirely edible and contains a variety of healing and allergy-soothing properties. Into each beeswax cell, bees deposit the precious nectar they have gathered from thousands of flowers. The cell is capped with a thin layer of beeswax and reserved as food supply for the colony.
Many of the amazing chefs who use our products in their kitchens have requested that we offer fresh-cut comb honey to use with their cheese offerings and other tasty treats, so you can thank them for giving us the idea to offer these!
Serving Suggestions: Use a sharp paring knife to cut pieces out of the box. Serve with a variety of cheeses and some thin warmed slices of baguette, or a rustic style county bread. It goes well with a piquant blue cheese, or a fresh ricotta or goat cheese served with dried pears and nuts, or fresh berries or cherries in season. Or, try with sharp cheddar and a piece of comb spread on top. You even can serve a slice with brunch and breakfast favorites...warm oatmeal, pancakes, waffles or French toast. “Bee” creative!
